Hey monkiis,

It's been a mild winter here in Colorado, but when a snow event came through this past Monday it felt like we were suddenly at war with the snow. I was walking to work through maybe 1-inch of new snow and was totally fascinated by the amount of energy being put forth to combat the frozen precipitation. A large, tractor-like contraption with a giant brush attached to its front was novel sight and I couldn't wonder about both the economic and environmental (there was salt everywhere) impact of a single-inch of snowfall.

This led me to investigate a concept I'd heard of a few years back, but needed a refresher. Friluftsliv is a Scandinavian word that translates literally as 'open-air living' or 'fresh-air life'. But the deeper meaning is that of fully embracing an outdoor-centric lifestyle no matter what the weather or season may be. I've always felt a sort of collective, societal battle against "bad weather" and couldn't help but to question why. Maybe if we just shift our collective mindset towards inclimate weather we could take another small towards a Wilder state of being.

What do you think?
