Discover how a people-pleaser became a top expert in negotiation and conflict management.

Today, I have the great pleasure to have on the show, Kwame Christian, a lawyer and expert in negotiation and conflict management. He is the Director of the American Negotiation Institute and a professor at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, the top ranked dispute resolution program in the country, and Otterbein University’s MBA program.

He is the author of the best-selling book Nobody Will Play With Me: How to Use Compassionate Curiosity to Find Confidence in Conflict. Kwame also hosts the top negotiation podcast, ‘Negotiate Anything’.

Kwame’s shares his personal struggles earlier in life with difficult conversations; which led him find a way to better deal with that by exploring psychology, human behavior and how the thoughts and beliefs influence our behavior and the way that people think.

“When it comes to these difficult conversations, it's not a question of whether or not we do it, it's a question of whether or not we do it well,” he says.

People often default to an avoiding strategy to avoid conflict. But he encourages us to be proactive when it comes to solving these problems and mending the relationship.

He explains the Compassionate Curiosity framework, a simple 3-step process to negotiate anything.

Kwame believes that with every conversation, there's an opportunity to learn, to make things better and to communicate at a higher level.
