When the world nearly ended 12 years ago, I was an immature 20-year old drifting through life. As I had nothing invested (as I had pretty much no money) and my job was delivering pizzas, the recession didn’t affect me much.

But now a little more than a decade later, the global pandemic has given me a lot of time to reflect and look back.

In college, I made a lot of memories, traveled, partied a lot, and tried to figure out this thing called life. At 22 years old, I graduated, moved from California to Arizona with $1,000 to my name, climbed the corporate ladder until I was 29-years old, got a dog, moved in with my girlfriend and bought a house.

The American dream right?

Maybe for some but it wasn’t for me.

Working for someone else and having to be somewhere at a certain time was a living nightmare. So on May 11th, 2017 I had my millennial life crisis, quit the six-figure career, published a book, and went all-in on my dreams of building an online business and playing professional golf.

Over the last few years, I’ve learned more about my life and myself than I did the previous 29 years combined. As Forbes 50 Under 50, Ed Mylett said,

“Entrepreneurship is going to make you face something you’ve been running from for a long time; yourself.”

Quitting a lucrative career after making $200 on my own entrepreneurial journeys did just that, it made me finally look myself in the mirror and figure out who I am.

Let me tell you, there have been a lot of ugly moments. There’s been extreme highs and lows but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change a thing.

While I’m quite fond of my own roaring twenties, at 32 years old, I’m more excited for this decade because I actually have a plan — I’m not just winging it anymore.

So if I was a young 20-something going through this pandemic like the rest of the world, here’s what I’d do to set myself up for success.
