Last week HM Treasury published a raft of consultations into tax policy, in a follow-up to the Budget which was branded 'tax day'.

But like many sequels, it didn't quite live up to the hype. While some were anticipating changes to inheritance tax and capital gains tax - and there were even rumours of significant reform to pensions tax relief - in reality most of the Treasury's proposals were administrative in nature.

This week FTAdviser's digital editor Damian Fantato is joined by Claire Trott, head of pensions strategy at Technical Connection, and Chris Etherington, private client partner at RSM, to discuss what the Treasury announced.

They explore what the changes mean, why the government seems so wary of reforming CGT, IHT and pensions tax relief, and what the chances are of reform in the near future.

As well as tax reform, they also discuss the Treasury's plans for tackling tax avoidance, which were also published on tax day.
