We are no stranger to the rags-to-riches story on Off The Record. The triumphant tale, the “started at the bottom, now we’re here” epic—in other words, a journey of ups and downs that eventually lands in a place much more sound than where it started. But sometimes, you hear one of these stories that just sticks out and forces you to re-examine the road that got you to the moment you find yourself in today. That’s the case with Matthew Emerzian’s story. He seemingly had everything: A great job in the music industry, a booming social life in Los Angeles, and was quite literally keeping up with the Kardashians. Then, one morning, as he got out of bed, he realized something was immediately wrong. He thought he was having a heart attack, but a trip to the doctors office diagnosed him with clinical depression. He realized he had to make meaningful change in his life, and he began to look beyond himself to create a more meaningful existence. This led to the founding of a non-profit organization Every Monday Matters that helps people and organizations understand why they matter. We all matter, it’s just a matter of recognizing why.
