Another weekend has come and gone, and it brought more Yankee disappointment that sadly did not vanish when we hit midnight on Monday. The glum vibes are still ever-present, as the Yankees saw a standard sweep in Minnesota snatched away from them by a terrible Aroldis Chapman, and then promptly got swept out of town themselves in a two-game weekend set against old friend Joe Girardi and his Phillies.

It’s bad times, and now the pitching is looking as suspect as it appeared to be before the season even began. The Phillies rocked Jameson Taillon and Domingo Germán, Michael King’s start didn’t go well, and the team can only be so confident in mid-rotation arm Jordan Montgomery. The Yankees’ starting pitchers have a 6.16 ERA over the past 14 games. It’s a delight. (Oh, and the offense that briefly surged during the week got blanked by Aaron Nola on Sunday. Will they be over .500 by next week? Who knows?!)

One name absent from that Bronx starter roll call is Gerrit Cole, but he and the rest of the league’s pitchers are embroiled in their own problems too thanks to the Spider Tack/foreign substances controversy. The only question will be how MLB will actually handle the difficult subject. We only have, uh, the utmost confidence in the league doing so.

In a grateful detour from the MLB news, today’s “Meet a Baby Bomber” segment covers pitchers Beck Way (Dan's interview linked here) and Barrett Loseke. Then we wrap it up as always with Yankee & Mitre of the Week.
