Welcome to the seventh instalment of Rob's incredibly insightful series on the coaching wisdom of Leo Tolstoy, and how you can apply it to the leadership, the management, and the coaching elements of life.

This time round, we're discussing the importance of remaining grounded, the futility of revenge, why we should all nurture our own sets of values and virtues, and why faith and wisdom are the most important goals in life.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Remind yourself on a consistent basis to remain grounded - Things can upset and destabilise you, so remember to remain grounded, even in the wake of success.
  • Remember that there is no competition - There is only one you. There is only one journey. If you decide to compete in any arena, then remember to remind yourself that your journey is unique.
  • The journey is always internal - No matter the circumstances, the power to adjust and respond is yours.
  • Beware of revenge - Be careful about allowing your emotions to take you on a journey that causes you to take retribution. Your time is much better spent on other pursuits.
  • Decisions - Realise the importance of knowing who you are, and have a set of guiding virtues and values. Use them in every decision you make.
  • Understand conflict - Develop your own theory on conflict and war. It will help you to better understand yourself, as well as the motivations of others.
  • Faith - We need to have faith of some kind. Faith is what sustains you, and feeds your soul. If you only believe in yourself, you will limit yourself.
  • As human beings we should aspire to gain knowledge, and use that knowledge for good. We must learn to focus and keep building ourselves.
  • Find time for yourself - If you cannot find time to reconnect with yourself, then you cannot hope to connect with others.
  • Speak less and do more - We are awash with information and communication. We have purpose and meaning in life, so choose your path and follow it rigidly.
  • Always build bridges between you and others. Make sure those bridges remain in place. Do not give in to feelings of injustice or revenge.
  • Wealth - Wealth spread well, and used wisely, can promote growth, and can nourish the world around you. Remember to give generously.
