Our culture encourages us to forge an identity and stand out from the crowd. At the same time there is a requirement that we conform to society's expectations. The Buddha's teaching goes against the stream of worldly thinking and, to this degree, is non-conformist. Yet, to reap the benefits of following this way, a student must willingly conform to the training and the teachers instructions. This talk explores this paradox and its implications for practicing meditators as their understanding of how life works gradually conforms to the truth.

Paul Harris is the Spiritual Head and principal meditation teacher at the House of Inner Tranquillity.
