Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about the social comparison effect with Dr. Loretta Breuning. Dr. Breuning is a brain chemistry expert who has studied social comparison from the perspective of the animal brain. She believes that social comparison is a natural function that results in strong emotional responses that we learn early in life. The hopeful part of her message is that we have the power to create new responses because of neuroplasticity. We get to decide how we perceive what people are saying and doing in new and more supportive ways. Dr. Breuning wants us to understand that while creating the shift is possible it does take work to create new neural pathways. One of the key steps is to become conscious of our comparisons and and their weight on us. The pain pathways are the biggest pathways in our brains, even though they are deep they are not always true. Social comparison is learned so we can create an exit ramp from the current deep neural pathway then build a new highway through repetition. We invite you to grab a cuppa something wonderful and join us for this brain changing conversation! Please subscribe, rate and share this podcast. Thank you!
