Tookie Williams was a co-founder of the infamous Crips gang in the 1970s in Southern California. Raised by a single mother, Tookie learned how to be tough in order to survive on the streets. He lived the gang life for a number of years and got heavily involved with drugs. In 1979, Tookie was arrested and ultimately convicted of murdering four people. He was sentenced to death.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the life and crimes of Tookie Williams. This is a man who undoubtedly committed a laundry list of crimes during his life. But, the four murders for which he received the death penalty didn't seem to be gang related. Tookie is also an interesting study in that he seemingly turned his life around in prison. He began writing children's books denouncing the gang lifestyle on which he had been such a big influence. The question many people have is whether or not this turnaround was real or whether it was a ploy to try to escape the death penalty.
