It’s finally July! Which means that it’s time to kick off a series that we (and especially Nathan) have literally been waiting for all year. Today, we pledge allegiance to the United Stated of Emmericha, our series covering the films of our favorite German patriot, Roland Emmerich. On this first episode, we're covering a movie that needs no description but we’re obligated to put one so we’re going to do this in the only way that could possibly do the movie justice. Ahem...

Good morning. In just over two hours, Nathan and Eric join forces through their laptops to discuss one of the biggest movies in the history of cinema. "Cinema." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common love of movies. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and we will once again be fighting for big dumb popcorn entertainment... Not for us, or for the studios, or even for  Roland Emmerich, but for our collective desire for quality escapism. We are fighting for our right to watch what we love. To love it without shame. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the cinephiles declared in one voice: "We WILL go quietly into the dark!” We will cheer when the curtains part! We're going to watch on! And we’re going to…. talk about it on our podcast! Today we celebrate Roland Emmerich’s INDEPENDENCE DAY! [crowd cheers]
