This week I’m grateful and humbled to bring you the remarkable and unique Recovery story of Alan S. I was immediately drawn to Alan as he works both the 12-Steps and the program of SMART Recovery, which complement each other quite nicely. Alan’s story is a case in point in why we continue to bring you personal stories of recovery from alcoholism and addiction. This journey to and through alcoholism isn’t one marked by early childhood trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or early abuse of drugs and alcohol. Alan was the quintessential nerd way before it became a cool nerd culture thing right through college, earning high marks and staying far away from any kind of trouble. But as you’ll soon learn, there’s many paths to alcoholism and addiction, and more than one Way Out so Listen Up.
